What PL Keys covers against manufacturing defects, for how long, what an accepted claim gets you, and what falls outside it.

Last updated

PL Keys covers what it sells against manufacturing defects. This page says for how long, what an accepted claim gets you, and what falls outside it.

What is covered

  • Tools and machines: twelve months against defects in materials and workmanship, from the date you receive them.
  • Electronics, programmers and diagnostic units: twelve months. Where the manufacturer offers longer cover or handles claims directly, that route applies and we will point you at it.
  • Key blanks and consumables: covered on arrival. Check a batch when it lands, because a miscut or mis-stamped run is easy to put right then and hard to establish months later.

What an accepted claim gets you

We will repair the item, replace it, or refund it. Which of those we do is our choice, and we will explain the reasoning. That is the whole of what we owe on a warranty claim: we are not liable for what the fault cost you elsewhere, including lost work, a vehicle off the road, hire, recovery, or another locksmith called out. Those limits are set out in the terms.

What is not covered

  • Normal wear. Cutters, tracers, picks, tension tools, jaws and belts are consumable and wear out with use.
  • Damage from misuse, dropping, liquid, power problems, or running a machine outside its rated duty.
  • Work done on the item by someone else, and any modification.
  • Software subscriptions that have lapsed, where the manufacturer sells updates separately.
  • Keys cut or programmed incorrectly by the user. We will help you diagnose it where we can, but a wrongly cut blank is not a defect.
  • Faults first reported after the cover period has ended.

Making a claim

Contact us with your order number, what the item is doing, and a photograph or short video where the fault can be seen. We do not usually ask for a machine back before looking at the evidence, because shipping one both ways wastes time when a picture settles it. Where a return is needed we will tell you who pays for it before you send anything, and an item sent back without that agreement may simply be returned to you.

Relationship to returns

A warranty claim is not the same as a change of mind. If the item is fine and you simply do not want it, that is a return, and the window is 30 days.

Questions

Do I need the original packaging?

Helpful for a machine, not required. Keep it for the first few weeks if you can.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell the tool?

It stays with the original order, because that is what establishes the purchase date.

What about items bought through a quote or invoice?

The same cover. Quote your invoice number instead of an order number.

Does this replace my rights under law?

No. Where you hold a right that cannot be signed away, you still hold it. This page describes the cover we give on top of that, and the limits on it.
