Some of what a diagnostic tool can do is decided by software rather than hardware. Licences unlock vehicle coverage, activations tie a tool to a machine, and update subscriptions keep an interface working with model years it did not originally cover.

These are not interchangeable. Check the tool, the version and whether an activation is tied to hardware before ordering, since a licence bought for the wrong variant cannot usually be moved.
