Where to find the code

  • FCC ID

Moulded into the back of a remote or fob, often after the words “FCC ID”. Letters and numbers together, like HYQ14FBA. This is the most precise code there is: it identifies one exact radio module rather than a family.

  • OEM part number

On the original key or in the vehicle handbook. Usually digits and a hyphen, like 95440-D3000. Good when the case is broken and the FCC ID has gone with it.

  • Keyway code

Stamped on the blade or the shoulder of a blank, like KW1, SC4 or HU92. Identifies the blade profile, which is what decides whether a key enters the lock at all.
